How a 5-Stage Reverse Osmosis System Works
- Pre-Filter: .This stage uses a sediment filter in water purification and reverse osmosis systems, removing dirt, sand, and rust while protecting the RO membrane from clogging and damage.
- Carbon Filter: This stage uses an activated carbon filter in water filtration and reverse osmosis systems to remove chlorine, chloramines, and chemicals that harm the RO membrane, improving water taste and odor.
- Reverse Osmosis Membrane: The RO membrane is the heart of the reverse osmosis system, water purification system, and water filter system. It uses semipermeable membranes in 5 stage reverse osmosis filters and under sink RO systems to remove dissolved solids, heavy metals, and contaminants, letting water molecules pass while blocking larger molecules, ions, and impurities.
- Post-Carbon Filter: After water passes through the RO membrane in a reverse osmosis system or whole house water filter, it may still have residual tastes or odors. This stage uses a post-carbon or charcoal water filter to refine taste and remove remaining contaminants
